The Pozurna

Introduction

I intend to work on the development of an alternative mouthpiece for the Zurna which will consist of a party blower being attached to the main body of the Zurna. 

The theory behind this (currently unproven) is that as a party blower is in effect an artificial "reed", once the new mouthpiece is attached, I will not have to worry about reed technique, and also I may achieve some unexpected results.

For this project I will need :-

• A party blower
• Plastic bottle top
• Rubber 'O' rings 
• Hose clip

Method

I constructed the new mouthpiece as detailed below

I attached the party blower to the bottle top by boring a hole in the bottle top just big enough to accommodate the party blower.

I then fastened the mouthpiece to the Zurna with a hose clip, using a rubber seal to prevent air loss.

Results

The results were not as expected. I was unable to generate any tone other than the original tone of the party blower. However, it has been interesting disproving this principle.
